It's hard to believe it is already 2018. Although the year has already begun, it's not too late to add or modify your New Year’s Resolution! By creating a marketing plan for your business, this resolution will help you grow not only in this year, but for years to come.
In the same way that you need a map when you’re on a road trip, you really do need a planned approach to developing a viable business. It requires a little time and attention to create a solid plan, but you can get a jump-start on the New Year with just these couple of activities.
Start with a Vision
What does your perfect practice look like? Are you looking to grow in the spa market? What about a traveling/home masseuse?
Consider what would happen in your perfect week and who your ideal client would be. How many sessions would you give? Do you like your place of practice? If not, what would you like to change? Write this down, talk it out, draw it up, or do whatever it takes to make it real in your mind.
Once you have a vision, spend time cultivating it. At a specific time every day, maybe first thing in the morning, picture yourself achieving it. In your vision, you create a dream and place it deep in your mind. At that point, you are ready to define your mission.
Set Your Mission
What is your mission? What do you hope to accomplish? Do you have a general, or specialized practice? What are your strengths and weaknesses? What is the profile of your ideal client—are they elders, pregnant women, people with repetitive strain injuries, stressed-out government workers? What do they have in common? What does this group of people need? Where do they go and how can you reach them? What local publications do they read? Talk to your existing clients, friends, and family members to get opinions.
After you answer these questions, write down a mission statement. In a few sentences, spell out what you want to accomplish and what your ideal practice looks like.
When you are ready for the next step in creating your marketing plan, it is important to do your research. Be sure to educate yourself on your target market, potential competition and how to make your goals reachable.
This process can take some work and may require some trial and error. However, with a solid strategy, you are sure to reach your goals for the new year!
